Ned Dunphy

I have worked with Co Waterford Farm Relief Services since 1979 both as a professional hoof trimmer and then as general manager. I trained in April 1980 as a hoof trimmer under Dr Toussaint Raven who was the first to develop the 5 step Dutch method of hoof trimming. Qualification as a hoof trimmer at Oenkerk Agriculture College, Netherlands followed in 1981.

I worked as a hoof care tutor with Felix McCabe of Teagasc in 1989 and have continued in this role since. In conjunction with my colleague Ger Cusack MVB MRCVS CertDHH, we set up the company “Greenway Agri Training” to supply bespoke hoof care courses to farmers, professional hoof trimmers and agriculture colleges.I have been awarded the QO1 level 6 award in training delivery and evaluation. Furthermore, I have been involved in compiling the “Reducing lameness in Irish dairy herds” guide booklet for farmers published by Teagasc in 2022.

I am a member of the recently formed Animal Health Ireland Hoof Healthcheck Technical Working Group and was also involved in setting up ICFTA “Irish Cattle Foot Trimmers Association” where I worked both as secretary and committee member for a number of years.
